Jodie Harber has always enjoyed working with people. With a BA in Social Work from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa and over ten years of experience as a Texas Licensed Social Worker, Jodie has counseled children and adults in various settings and situations, including a residential children's home, grief and crisis counseling at a hospital emergency room, and juvenile probation.
When her daughter began having tremendous difficulties with reading, Jodie turned to the school system for guidance and soon learned that her daughter was dyslexic. The school was willing and equipped to provide her daughter accommodations, specifically to allow portions of tests to be read to her. This was an unacceptable and limiting idea, Jodie thought, for her very bright and gifted daughter. In this world of written communication, Jodie saw the need for her daughter to be an independent reader. This was the catalyst for Jodie's search for a solution - not an accommodation.
Luckily, a concerned teacher showed Jodie the book, The Gift of Dyslexia, by Ronald D. Davis. Within several months of reading the book, her daughter had completed the Davis® Program with a Licensed Davis Facilitator. Jodie was thrilled to see her daughter's reading become easier and her self-esteem restored!
Inspired by her daughter's success, Jodie began the journey to become a Licensed Davis Facilitator. She is excited and proud to bring this highly effective program to others in Central Texas who are suffering with dyslexia and ADD/ADHD and are searching for a solution.
Jodie's daughter (above) says this about the Davis Program:
“It has been a very helpful thing for me. Before I went through the program, I couldn’t read at all. I have always dreamed about reading chapter books and now I can!”
